Last Night of the Prom's Live from Swindon Sat 13th September

The BBC's last night of the Proms will come to Swindon this month, as the big screen broadcasts Proms on Screen Swindon, live from Wharf Green on Saturday 13 September.

The BBC's Proms is a prestigious event that is eagerly anticipated by thousands of people around the country each year, and this year's final night's celebration will go out live from Swindon town centre.

The event is jointly hosted by the BBC, The New Swindon Company and inSwindon BID Company Ltd, and will celebrate the best of British music. The event will commence at 7pm with an introduction from compere Ashley Heath, followed by the live Proms at around 7.45pm.

The hosts are urging everyone to pack a picnic, bring a blanket and picnic seating, and come along to the one of the premier musical celebrations of the year. British hats an flags will be available on the night, in a bid to stick with a true Proms theme.

Justin Tomlinson, Swindon Borough Council Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Recreation, said: "The Proms is a hugely popular event and is being broadcast live from screens around the UK - we are delighted to be able to be involved this year. Our vision was for the Big Screen to become a central focus for people in Swindon, and this event will certainly do that. We are hoping to create a real party atmosphere - I hope to see as many people there as possible."

Erik Burnett-Godfree from the BBC in Swindon added: "It is great for us to be able to broadcast the Proms this year. We are very proud of our Big Screen in Swindon, and I am pleased to be kicking off the first in a series of events that we hope will create a real buzz in the town centre."
