Search starts for new Chief Executive

The New Swindon Company is starting its search for a new chief executive to spearhead the implementation of the major regeneration projects for central Swindon. Peter Andrews, the current chief executive, has been headhunted to lead the newly-created London Thames Gateway Development Corporation, one of the most significant regeneration projects in the country. It is anticipated that he will leave Swindon in early summer to take up his new role, although details have yet to be finalised.

Commented John Cullum, the company's chairman, "We wish Peter every success in his new post. This prestigious appointment is a credit to Peter and recognizes the work that has been done by The New Swindon Company team in getting the Regeneration Framework established in the town."

Work on one of the major project areas, The Exchange, has already started with the demolition of the former Post Office on Fleming Way. Masterplanners are being appointed to work up detailed proposals for the project area and these proposals will be the subject of public consultation in the coming months.

The major regeneration project areas are:

  • The Arena - a mix of retail, commercial and recreational facilities to include a central piazza and creating a focal point for the town centre
  • The Exchange - a prime mixed use area adjacent to Fleming Way
  • The Promenade - home to the Council's new cultural facilities and potentially the new site for the University of Bath's Institute of Contemporary Interdisciplinary Arts
  • The Hub - expanding Swindon's retail offer
  • North Star Village - providing a new and vibrant residential area
  • Swindon Central - bringing the railway corridor to life and offering critical access to the town
  • The Campus - business area in a park-like setting north of the railway

Information about the projects can be found on The New Swindon Company's website at www.newswindon.co.uk
